We all need to protect our civil justice system or there is simply no reason to have it at all. Below is a short description of the film:
HOT COFFEE examines the dangers of so-called “tort reform” and its threat to our civil justice system. Using the now-infamous legal battle over a spilled cup of McDonald’s coffee as a springboard, the film follows four people, including McDonald’s plaintiff Stella Liebeck, whose lives have been affected by their inability to access … Continue Reading >
If you are anything like me, and we are all alike in some ways, you wake up proud to be an American – thankful to have rights that many don’t have in other countries. When our constitutional rights are attacked we, as Americans, fight for our rights. Think about it – what happens when we hear that our constitutional right to bear arms (2nd amendmend) is under attack? We fight back! What happens when we hear that our search and … Continue Reading >

Today, my three year old daughter was part of a neat experience at her preschool. All of the kids were allowed to bring their bikes and helmets to school. A group came to the school and met with all of the kids – explaining bike safety, checking for proper helmet fits, and showing … Continue Reading >
The recent documentary, “Hot Coffee” by Susan Saladoff has officially been released and is being shown on HBO starting June 27th. I encourage everyone to watch this movie. The movie reveals what really happened to Stella Liebeck, the woman who spilled McDonald’s coffee on herself and was crucified in the media. Big businesses jumped on this case and started a media frenzy. The movie provides incredible insight into who started this drama and why. More importantly, it tells Stella’s realy … Continue Reading >
Throughout my second day of volunteering at The Bridge, I was even more moved. As of today, all of the Joplin residents are accounted for – I think that is incredible. As I walked around through the destruction trying to get people to take bug spray and suntan lotion from me, people refused. They were too focused on their task at hand despite their sunburnt and irritated skin. I witnessed on reunion – a man walked into The Bridge and … Continue Reading >

Sometimes lawyer win huge verdicts in cases or win crucial motions in court – and we all like to discuss these “wins” because it reinforces that we are doing good. If all of us plaintiff lawyers continue to win, we know that we are doing our job in standing up for the little guys, against the big guys.
Today, I had what most would be considered a small motion in front of a Judge on an Illinois car crash case. … Continue Reading >
In 2009, House Bill 600 was passed prohibiting texting while driving – but it ridiculously applied only to drivers 21 and younger. The rest of Missouri drivers were given the option to lawfully drive while distracted by sending or reading a text.
31 states have laws banning all drivers from sending text messages behind the wheel. An additional nine states have laws that limit texting while driving based on the driver’s age or license status. However, Missouri’s age limit of … Continue Reading >
I am sure that we are all thinking about our neighbors in need after the Good Friday tornadoes devastated the Highway 70/270 corridor, Berkeley, Ferguson, Maryland Heights and Bridgeton. Our Lambert airport was severely damaged as well. I am so grateful that no serious injuries were reported. I am even more proud that my St. Louis Community has stepped up to the plate to help our neighbors in need. If you were a victim of this storm, either suffering personal … Continue Reading >
