Over the weekend, a 62 year-old woman who was walking her dog near the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Klemm Street in South St. Louis was struck by a car. According to witnesses, the vehicle was speeding and ignored a clearly posted stop sign. The vehicle struck both the woman and her dog. The dog was killed instantly as a result of the automobile accident. The woman was critically injured as a result of the Missouri accident and was rushed to St. Louis University Hospital.
Unfortunately, just two days later, the woman died as a result of her injuries. It has been reported that the driver was operating a 1995 Lincoln Towncar. Following the car crash in South St. Louis, the woman’s neighbors stopped to help her. One of those neighbors was a nurse who attempted to assist the injuried woman until help arrived. The negligent driver stopped, exited his vehicle, but then fled on foot. On February 18, 2011, the police did apprehend a suspect but his name has not yet been released.
As a St. Louis, Missouri accident injury attorney, I unfortunately hear about car crashes frequently. Typically, I hear about accidents involving two or more vehicles, motorcycles, tractor trailers or bicycles. Automobile accidents involving pedestrians is not as common but it does indeed happen. An investigation will reveal if the driver of this Lincoln has been drinking prior to the car accident, if he was fleeing, or simply not paying attention.
