The Missouri Highway Patrol has reported that a 39 year old man from Springfield, Missouri was recently severely injured in a truck accident on Farm Road 127 which is north of Springfield. According to reports from the Springfield News-Leader, the man fell or voluntarily jumped from a Ford truck and then the flatbed trailer attached to the truck ran him over. The man was immediately taken to St. John’s Hospital and was reported to have serious injuries.
Of the 878 Missouri traffic deaths in 2009, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports 86 of them involved large trucks. The above accident is not the typical truck accident that I see as a St. Louis injury attorney. Usually, the truck accident cases I handle involve semi tractor-trailers or big rigs. Such accidents can be extremely dangerous because the tractor-trailers are so much larger than the passenger vehicles typically involved in the accident. I have seen very serious injuries resulting from passenger cars that have traveled under a semi-truck. Even those accidents where a vehicle is barely struck by a semi-truck can result in serious injuries because of the weight of the trailer and therefore, the force by which it strikes the passenger car.
