I represent those injured in both downstate Illinois car accidents and Missouri car accidents. I find that oftentimes, my new clients seem to have the same questions. I have tried to answer these questions with my Missouri Accident Guide and my Roadmap to Your Illinois Car Crash Case. My guess is that many folks, those who are not my clients, those who want to try to handle their case on their own (and some people should do this, please check … Continue Reading >
Allstate continues to use a claims evaluation software to determine their insureds’ and claimants’ harms and losses. Allstate uses a software called “Colossus” to assist their adjusters. It is actually estimated that 70% of car accident claims are being evaluated by Colossus. And it isn’t just Allstate – a helpful list of all known insurance companies with licensing rights to use Colossus can be found here (which insurance companies are authorized to use Colossus?). Of course, the insurance companies claim … Continue Reading >
Passenger cars have liquid brake systems (brake fluid) which causes liquid to immediately dispense when the brakes are activated. But did you know that tractor trailers (the big rigs, semis you see on the roadway) have braking systems that are based on air? When the brakes are pressed, the air in the chambers is compressed. Air does not escape/dispense out into the braking system with air brakes as quickly as it does in a passenger car.

As an injury trial lawyer, I hear this from my clients frequently – “I didn’t do anything wrong…so why has MY life been turned upside down?” I’ve been in a car crash myself – one caused by the carelessness of someone else. All of a sudden, I found myself with medical bills, missed work, a totaled car. I was fortunate – I was able to take a few days off from work without being punished; I had health insurance to … Continue Reading >

Distracted driving. If you haven’t heard about it, you have been living in a bubble or, well, very distracted.

There are many forms of bullying; most people will think about a kid’s lunch money being taken from them on the playground. Unfortunately this is not the only scenario where bullying occurs – it can happen just about anywhere. Not only is it still happening in the schools, it is also a problem at the workplace, within certain corporations such as insurance companies, online, and even via text messaging.
In all cases of bullying (school bullying, employment bullying, workplace bullying, … Continue Reading >
I have several clients that were severely injured tractor trailer crashes. I find it disturbing that on more than one occasion, I have learned that the negligent truck driver shouldn’t have been on the road in the first place. Just like regular motorists, tractor trailer drivers can have medical conditions that make it unsafe for them to drive a regular car, let alone a heavy, large semi-truck. While trucking company/employers are required to have their drivers examined to confirm that … Continue Reading >
