A 19 year-old girl was injured when her car drove into the path of a train in Carroll County, Missouri yesterday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the young girl turned off of a county road and was then struck by the train. Also, around 10:20 am yesterday, an elderly women was killed when a train struck her car. The vehicle-train collision occurred at Diehlman Road, just south of Page Avenue near Olivette, Missouri. According to the St. Louis County Police, it appears that the woman was attempting to cross the tracks when the train backed into her car, killing her. There are no gates at this particular location. The woman simply may not have seen the flashing lights given her age.
Such railway locations are extremely dangerous when they do not have crossing gates to prevent cars from crossing the tracks when a train is in the vicinity. Even at low speeds, a collision between a train and a passenger car can have horrible consequences, as evident here. Missouri train accident attorneys, like myself, know that early and swift investigation into the accident can provide crucial information to assist with the future litigation.
