Two small children and an infant from Mount Vernon, Illinois were injured in a car accident on Highway 71 just south of Nevada, Missouri. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the children were taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment of their moderate injuries. The driver of the car apparently lost control of the vehicle while rounding a curve. The car overturned.
It is always distressing to hear about accidents involving young children. It is difficult to say what caused this accident. It may have been lack of attention on the part of the driver or it may have been a defect with the roadway itself. As a St. Louis car accident attorney, I have represented many people injured in one-vehicle accidents that resulted from poor roadway design. Each state has certain guidelines the Department of Transportion must follow. There should be warning signs in locations with sharp curves, such as in this case. When there are sudden changes in the roadway, the drivers must be warned in enough time to adjust their driving.
